7/3/09 - Kevin Leicht was involved in a couple of great finishes in the 2009 season on his way to nine wins this season, but it was the one he won on away from his home track of Newport Speedway that put him on this "Best 9 of '09" list. The elder of the Leicht brothers showed the rest of the racing world that he could not only win at Newport as he did eight times this season, but in this July 3rd finish at Tri-County, he edged out a young driver, David Wilson, who was hot there this season winning three races himself. 8th - Roberts Claims GPS Win By Inches
8/29/09 - David Roberts proved that you don't neccessarily have to compete all season long to put together some great runs. After putting together a brand new car and gathering the funding needed to compete with the likes of Randy Porter, Roger Powell and 13-time race winner, Marty Ward, Roberts ripped off four wins to end the 2009 season at Greenville Pickens Speedway. None was more intense than a win by just inches over Porter on August 29th, it was a finish that will forever be etched into the minds of GPS and especially Roberts fans! 7th - Turner Beats York to Finish at Ace
8/21/09 - Jason York only made a couple of starts this season at Ace Speedway, a track where he is a former champion, but like all the times he's raced there in the past, York was a strong contender. His first race there this season ended in verbal sparring match with rival Speedy Faucette, but when he returned in late August, he was able to put himself in the spotlight once again as he was involved in the closest finish of 2009. York however fell just a couple feet short of Robert Turner during the August 21st feature race. 6th - Falk Edges Out Johnson at SoBo
8/1/09 - CE Falk was dominant during the 2009 season when he was racing at Langley Speedway, but outside of the Hampton, VA track he had been unable to a victory depsite running strong everywhere he traveled. That was until August 1st at South Boston Speedway when in a run to the finish he barely edged out venerable veteran, Eddie Johnson for his first victory on the 3/8 mile track. Falk, who went on to win the championship at Langley, has to mark this as one his career accomplishments winning on the historic short track. 5th - McReynolds Holds Off Yontz at Ace
8/7/09 - Brandon McReynolds dominated two races during the UARA-STARS Series season, but McReynolds had a hard time closing the deal as both of those dominating victories ended as one of the top five finishes on this "Best 9 of '09" list. McReynolds coming into the tour race at Ace Speedway was ailing, he was sick and even had Corey LaJoie standing by in case he couldn't run the race. He ran the race and dominated it, but in a green, white, checkered finish he had a tire leaking down and Alex Yontz gave him a run for his money in an intense finish. 4th - Crum Holds Off B-Mac in Bailey's
10/4/09 - The Bailey's 300 is typically one of the best races of the season each year and in 2008 the finish was certainly one of the best of the year and this year didn't disappoint. This year it was a duel between three young 18-year old drivers that settled the Bailey's 300 with Jake Crum, Brandon McReynolds and Brennan Poole, but on the final restart it was a budding rivalry between Crum and McReynolds that settled the race and even spilled over into the cool down lap as McReynolds slammed into Crum after Crum's win. It was exciting as only three young bucks could make it! 3rd - McReynolds Holds Off Caudill at Kport
10/17/09 - I told you Brandon McReynolds dominant performances were capped off by incredible finishes where he was barely able to hold off his challengers for victory. McReynolds had to do some defensive driving as the ever clean driving, Jamey Caudill got along side him for a photo finish at Kingsport Speedway. Some called McReynolds blocking in the return to racing at Kingsport dirty driving, but McReynolds only considered it what it was ... his third trip of the season to victory lane. 2nd - Morris Bumps Deiny for Win at MMS
8/8/09 - Two late season races involving track or series points leaders left one mad and the other scrambling to get or keep the points lead. Frank Deiny, Jr. looked to be one of Philip Morris' most formidable challengers for the championship at Motor Mile Speedway in years, but on August 8th, Morris took charge of the situation. With Deiny leading and looking on his way to his second victory, when on a green, white, checkered finish Morris bumped Deiny and went on to claim the win in a photo finish captured only by RACE22.com and set off a great late season rivalry. 1st - McCall Spins Caudill for Dillon Win
9/19/09 - With veterans, Deiny and Morris brewing a crazy rivalry at Motor Mile, the UARA's veterans, Matt McCall and Jamey Caudill weren't going to be outdone. With the tour rolling into Dillon Motor Speedway for the second time of 2009, it was time for Caudill to make up some ground on McCall so he could stay in the title hunt. Caudill was doing what he needed to do, he was out front, but quickly he found himself in a battle with McCall for the lead that lasted many laps. |
