Myrtle Beach, SC ~ Practice rolled off Thursday at Myrtle Beach Speedway and while Lucas Ransone was busy pacing practice with some very fast times other drivers had a rough going especially Brandon McReynolds. McReynolds attempted to knock the wall down ... literally as he crunched the rear end of his car after losing control of his car during a practice run, forcing the runner up in the UARA-STARS Rookie of the Year battle this year to load up and go home early. McReynolds was disgusted after the crash and even though the team has a brand new car sitting at Marlowe Racing Chassis they apparently felt it was a good idea to abort mission and keep the new car as they get ready for a second straight campaign in the UARA-STARS Series in 2009. McReynolds and team have indicated that they would like to compete for the series championship next season. Chad Mullis, fresh off his UARA win at Concord, got loose and had contact with the wall also, but the damage was minimal. Clay Rogers had to change engines after motor problems, in the same car that he blew an engine with at the Concord UARA race while leading, only 13 laps into the event. Most teams were experimenting with the setup on Thursday, so the times weren't very reliable. Ransone however was the one that everybody was talking about as the day unfolded. Ransone, who qualified inside the top twenty at Martinsville and was running good before getting taken out of the race is fast again and many people are speculating if this is the weekend that this young driver will break through. Ransone had many second place finishes this season at Hickory and Tri-County Speedway's but was unable to get a win this season. For Ransone a win in the Seneca 400 may be just what the doctor ordered after a great season without a win. Darrell Wallace Jr, Austin and Ty Dillon were some fresh faces on Thursday getting ready for the Seneca 400. Wallace and the younger Dillon, Ty will be attempting to make their first starts at Myrtle Beach Speedway as the young drivers have already proven themselves to be great drivers. Austin Dillon turned some good competitive laps around the track on Thursday and expects to be among the top ten come race day. Austin has certainly been turning heads while driving the black number three car on the NASCAR Camping World East Series and will do the same this weekend while at "The Beach"! Some drivers quit early, Rodney Cook was one of them, saying it wasn't worth killing a set of sticker tires when it didn't mean much. Cook ran just a handful of laps on worn tires and was very happy with the handling of the car. Check back later tonight right here on Race22.com, Friday's practice will have all the teams going back to the setup that they were planning to run with, times will be more of what the teams "really" have as we get down to the business of racing here at "The Beach".
Clay Rogers(52) and Chad Mullis(9) teams were busy on Thursday evening. Mullis had a brush with the wall after something reportedly broke and he spun while Rogers blew an engine and was busy getting a fresh powerplant in the car.
Brandon McReynolds(28) wasn't as lucky as Chad Mullis when he got turned around and bounced his car off the wall on Thursday. McReynolds and company loaded up and won't be able to compete this weekend at Myrtle Beach Speedway. |
