Weekly Tracks Power Rankings Sept. 2010 -- 1st -11th Welcome to RACE22.com ... The Home of Late Model Stock Car Racing ... RACE22.com Website Designed, Hosted & Maintained by RACE22.com Website Designed, Hosted & Maintained by RACE22.com #11 -- Jason York/Caraway(16)
Jason York has had an impressive season, he's won six races at Caraway Speedway despite some stiff competition from first Travis Swaim, Ryan Rhodes and Ryan Wilson at the beginning of the season and most recently from Dan Moore. Swaim was among the top 11 all season, but not winning since May 29th and York going on a roll winning three of the six races since then, has him moving up the board. However, York has got to get out of "one track Jack" mode and take his show on the road to other tracks and prove his place in Late Model Stock Car racing. #10 -- Davin Scites/Motor Mile(n/r)
Davin Scites has for the last three or four seasons been one of the cars to beat everytime he hits the track, but his starts have been limited. Despite a limited amount of starts, he's managed to walk away with some victories and for the past three seasons the pole in the Virginia is for Racing Lovers 300 at Martinsville. This season just in time for Martinsville he's reemerged as one of the favorites with two wins in the last month at Motor Mile and looks locked and loaded heading into big race season. #9 -- Andy Mercer/Hickory(6)
Andy Mercer's stranglehold on Hickory Motor Speedway isn't gone, but the veteran driver who is well on his way to his second straight track championship has had to fight and claw his way to the top with a host of tough challengers. Kyle Mansch has been Mercer's biggest challenger as he has six wins against Mercer's seven, but Mercer has kept a handle on the track he dominated last season with 13 wins. Mercer is still among the toughest in Late Model Stock Car racing this season, but unlike last year, he's got to make a strong showing at Martinsville to solidify his status. #8 -- Wayne Ramsey/Motor Mile(4)
Wayne Ramsey had to be the second half of the season's biggest disappointment as he looked to be the strongest contender for the championship at Motor Mile with four victories through July. The last month of racing there proved to be his achilles heel as he went winless and eventally lost the championship to FDJ teammate, Brandon Dean. Ramsey remains as one of the strongest Late Model Stock Car competitors, but he'll need a strong showing at Martinsville to resurrect his once stellar season. #7 -- Marty Ward/Greenville(11)
No one can ever say that Marty Ward isn't Greenville-Pickens Speedway's best ever racer in the Late Model Stock Car ranks. He's won everything and is on the verge of yet another record breaking championship as the veteran continues to flex his muscle every week. Though Ward doesn't travel as much as he needs to be among the Top Five in this list, he certainly has shown that he's one of the best anywhere and with the $10,000 to Win SH Carter 125 coming up at Greenville on Monday, he could very likely claim a "big race" victory on his home turf. #6 -- Brandon Dean/Motor Mile
Brandon Dean has been nothing short of impressive over the last couple of seasons with strong performances at Motor Mile Speedway as well as at other tracks. Dean got himself into the top 11 by finally breaking though for a win and though he hasn't won since, he's remained among the top contenders and with Wayne Ramsey faltering at the end, Dean is walking away as the 2010 Motor Mile Speedway Track Championship. Dean's come a long way and the young man could put himself further up this list with another win, maybe one at another track as we approach "big race" season. #5 -- Philip Morris/Motor Mile(3)
Philip Morris' 2010 season was derailed when he boycotted Motor Mile Speedway near the midpoint in the season at the direction of others. It was a poor decision that you can tell Morris regrets when you talk to him, though he won't admit it. Morris left and hit South Boston Speedway, where he was fast, but couldn't get the job done and remained winless until swallowing his pride and returning to Motor Mile, where he won two more races. Rumors are abound as to what's going on with Morris' camp right now, but with the help of Sellers Racing he grabbed a strong second place finish at South Boston last week. #4 -- Lee Pulliam/South Boston(7)
Lee Pulliam simply has his stuff together ... he's been on a roll as of late with five wins in the last nine races of this season at South Boston Speedway. Pulliam also hit Motor Mile Speedway and showed no signs of slowing down with a third place finish in his first start at the track. Flexing muscle at one tough track can sometimes appear easy, but to do it at two is quite impressive and this young driver may well be one of the biggest threats when this season comes to a boil in the big races from away races at Martinsville, Myrtle Beach, Caraway and more to a big home event at South Boston. #3 -- Rodney Cook/Ace(5)
Rodney Cook has had a succesful 2010 season, dominating at Ace Speedway with nine victories to date and recently a victory in a one-off start at Franklin County Speedway. Cook has also had his share of disappointments, but none more so than last week when he won his 10th race of the season at Ace, which due to other unfortunate circumstances cost him the championship. Cook however is undoubtably one of the best Late Model Stock Car racers right now and while he isn't as competitive when traveling around as he needs to be, I challenge any other tracks "hot shoe" to travel to Ace and see if you can beat Rodney Cook. #2 -- Justin Johnson/SoBo(1)
Justin Johnson has had an incredible season of racing this year from his nine wins at South Boston and subsequent track championship to his three traveling victories at the highly competitive Motor Mile Speedway. Johnson however over the last month hasn't been as strong as he needs to be and still hasn't returned to Motor Mile, making it look as if he's scared to strap on the fifty extra pounds he will have to for winning two races in a row earlier in the season. Johnson and CE Falk have easily set themselves apart from the rest of the Weekly Track Late Model Stock Car contingent this season and look to be the favorites heading into Martinsville and all the rest of the big races this fall. #1 -- CE Falk/Langley(2)
CE Falk has had a roller coaster type 2010 season from starting off with two disappointing finishes after dominating races at South Boston to a fast start at Langley Speedway winning four of the first eight races of the season. Add to that a career making performance in the Denny Hamlin Foundation race at Southside and a mid-season slump was probably to be expected as he hit a small skid in July at Langley. Falk rebounded and picked up three more wins enroute to his second straight title at Langley, but it wasn't until a recent trip to Motor Mile Speedway that the young man asserted himself back to the number one postition with his 11th win of the season on his third different track. He's the only Weekly Track Late Model Stock Car driver to win on three different venues and he's hoping to get one more at South Boston before "big race" season commences. |
