Dillon, SC (August 9, 2010) - Last year it was Hal Goodson dominating the Late Model division at Dillon Motor Speedway, this year Jon Lane is taking over. After winning the last race on July 24th on seven cylinders, Lane and his whole team returned Saturday night to show them what would happen when they performed on all eight.
Lane struggled in practice only setting the eight fastest time. Goodson set fast time followed by Logan Bunning, Joe Heigl, who was fresh off a win at Wake County Speedway in his Super Late Model, Ben Stanton and Wayne Locklair.
Goodson continued his fast pace in qualifying taking the top spot with a time of 17.556. Lane found some speed and timed second, Doug Barefoot third, Joe Heigl fourth and Wayne Locklair fifth. The top four where all within a half a tenth of each other.
Goodson jumped out to a good lead over Lane and quickly proved to be the dominate car on the night. Coming to the front would be Jason Clark who won two races ago. Wayne Locklair looked to be strong as he quickly got around Joe Heigl for fourth and looked to move by Jon Lane. Locklair was unsuccessful and quickly found himself falling through the field.
The motor always runs its best right before it blows up says Darrell Waltrip and that's just what happened with Jason Clark. On his way through the field, Clark pulled to a stop in turn two with engine problems. Later the crew determined it was terminal and he was done for the night. Goodson continued to lead over Lane, Bunning, Barefoot. RA Brown started ninth on the field and quickly found himself inside the top five on lap sixteen.
Goodson didn't get a jump on the restart and quickly had a challenge from Lane for the top spot. Both would battle hard for several laps with Lane getting around Goodson for the lead on lap twenty five. The top five were all battling hard among themselves until Rudy Branham spun in turn one to bring out the second caution of the night.
Goodson would head to the pits with a broken pan-ard bar and was done for the night just twenty eight laps into the event. Jon Lane was now your leader with Joe Heigl taking the second spot. Both would battle hard for the top spot with Lane finally taking the lead four laps after the restart. Still stuck on the top, Heigl now had to deal with Logan Bunning for third and RA Brown for fourth.
Back in the pack, Doug Barefoot and Ben Stanton battled for several laps among themselves for the last spot in the top ten. The two would make contact on lap forty seven sending Barefoot around in turn one.
This would set up a late caution that allowed Bunning one last shot at the win. Bunning and Lane made contact on the restart but Lane held off the charge from everybody behind him and crossed the line for his second consecutive win. Logan Bunning came home second followed by Joe Heigl, RA Brown and Archie Adams Sr who fought hard with Wayne Locklair the final couple of laps.
The Late Models return September 6th for a $3000 to win one hundred lap race. The Dillon Motor Speedway Late Models use scuff American Racer's that cost $140 mounted. For more information contact Ron Barfield.
The Super Truck division had its biggest turn out of the year with twenty one trucks checking into the pits. Hal Goodson was fastest in both practice sessions and qualifying and started from the pole.
It took nearly twenty minutes to get past lap ten as several accidents played out. Ryan Hall and Kevin Parsons started all the action on lap two when they made contact exiting turn four. Parsons slammed hard into the inside wall and was done for the night. Hall's crew made repairs and came back out.
On the restart contact between Jimmy Herrington and Ronnie Daniels saw Archie Adams Sr., Brad Andrews, Randy Dunn and several more trucks go around in turn two. Daniels had the worst damage and was done for the night. Everybody else continued on.
Marty Griggs and Jody Measemer made contact on lap seven that saw Measemer go around and collected Talon Gallimore. Measemer had a lot of damage on the front and rear of his truck. But nobody had anything for Hal Goodson as he cruised to another victory in the Super Truck division. Todd Kelly, Jimmy Herrington, Ryan Hall, and Gene Kepley rounded out the top five.
In the Charger division, Bobby June claimed the five hundred dollar bounty on Kent Harper after winning the caution free thirty lap event. Dillon Motor Speedway takes this coming week off for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at the Darlington Raceway but returns to action August 21st with the Super Trucks, Allison Legacy, Street Stocks, Chargers, 4 Cylinders and Mini-Cup division all running.
