Newton, NC(September 10, 2010) -- A field of 14 Late Models was ready to tackle the 34th annual Bobby Isaac Memorial race at Hickory Motor Speedway under the hot North Carolina sun.
It was the Austrailan native, George Miedecke that would set fast time in his Jamie Yelton, Fat Head Racing prepared car. Candace Muzny would continue her recent streak of strong outings by qualifying on the outside pole for this special traditional event. In the second row we would find a pair of crafty veterans of Ashley Huffman and Jamey Caudill.
Miedecke leads the field to the green flag for this 150 lap event and it wouldn't take long for him to flex his muscle as he pulls away with a demanding lead quick. By lap 10 Miedecke had a pretty good size lead over Muzny and Huffman. Caudill would be the story during the first 15 laps as he started to fall back through the field quickly having mechanical issues and would eventually park, finishing last.
Lap 18 would be the first caution as the 06 car of Brad Cox goes for a spin in turn 4. This would give Muzny a chance to regroup of get back on the bumper of Miedecke. On the restart Muzny gets a slow start and leaves the door open for Ashley Huffman to take over second. Huffman would hold on till lap 28 when Muzny powers back past Huffman to regain the second position. Miedecke continues to flex his muscle over Muzny, Huffman, Jessica Brunnelli, and now 5th place Kyle Moon.
Moon is the man on the move as he makes the pass for 4th on lap 35 and brings Robert Johnson with him past Brunnelli. Johnson and Brunnelli fight hard for the 5th position that eventually results to both going for a spin in turn 4 on lap 47 but not before Moon had made his move around Huffman for the 3rd position.
Johnson would be out of the race and Brunnelli would continue on. With Moon picking off spots left and right some would think he will be the car to give Miedecke a run for his money. It would take to lap 60 for Moon to complete the pass on Muzny for 2nd and by that time Miedecke is gone once again. Muzny wasn't giving up that easy as just 5 laps later she takes back over 2nd from Moon and the two would run nose to tail.
The caution would fly once again on lap 67 for contact between Caleb Pressley and Jessica Brunnelli that would result in Brunnelli spinning in turn 4 and collecting Brad Cox. By this point Kyle Grissom has worked his way to the 4th position with Huffman continuing to ride in 5th.
Kyle Moon would make his final move on Muzny for second on lap 76 and look to be reeling in Miedecke who now has a straight away lead on the field. As Miedecke and Moon ride in first and second the action is heating up for the 5th position as Jesse Lefevers is giving Huffman all he can handle. Lefevers who had to start shotgun on the field due to a blown motor would make the pass for 5th on lap 82 but Huffman didn't give up as he makes the pass back just 3 laps later.
Grissom is working on making the pass for 3rd on Muzny and after several laps of swapping the position Grissom would take full control and start to pull away. The field would have a long green flag run and that's not what Moon or Grissom needed. Miedecke would maintain his straight away lead while Moon and Grissom were praying for a caution so they could get to Miedecke. Lap 133 Kyle Moon got a caution but not exactly what he wanted as he would be the caution for a flat right front tire that would end his shot at a victory.
Now with Grissom on his outside Miedecke would have a little harder fight for the lead and the two battle door to door and Grissom would use a cross over move to take over the lead for a lap but not before Miedecke returns the favor and takes back over the lead and begins to put a gap between himself and Grissom. With the laps dwindling down Muzny makes her pass on Grissom and takes over the 2nd spot while Lefevers would secure the 4th position and Huffman has his hands full of Grant Wimbish who is fighting hard for a top 5 finish.
George Miedecke would go on to win his first career Hickory Motor Speedway victory over Candace Muzny, Kyle Grissom, Jesse Lefevers and Grant Wimbish after a last lap pass on Ashley Huffman. Miedecke would lead all but 1 lap in route to his dominating victory.
