Hampton, VA(July 20, 2010) -- For the first time this season the Late Model Stock drivers at Langley Speedway took to the track in twin 50 lap competitions, a change to the schedule made recently by the front office of the Speedway in an attempt to make up some races lost due to an earlier rainout. But early on in the day it appeared that rain would once again rear its ugly head putting the night's races in danger of being washed out.

But, although the radar looked every bit of nasty the rain would stay away from the track allowing the races to go green. The lineup for the first race was determined by qualifying with Greg Edwards taking with a time of 15.860 seconds beating out young guns Nick Smith and C.E. Falk by just over a tenth each. As the first race got underway, Edwards cleared his front row companion leaving Smith and Falk locked in a side-by-side battle for second.

Falk would win the battle as Smith's car wiggled in turns 1 and 2 on lap 3 sending him up the hill and back to fifth behind Danny Edwards Jr., and Dean Shiflett. Smith would right the ship and get back past Shiflett and set his sights on Danny Edwards for third but all the while Greg Edwards was setting sail on the rest of the field.

At halfway, Edwards lead was just about half a straightaway over second place Falk with Edwards Jr., and Smith not far behind. On lap 31, Edwards began to encounter lap traffic but instead of seeing the lead decrease, Edwards was actually able to increase his lead while fighting through the traffic. At the end, Greg Edwards took the win in the first race by just over a second over C.E. Falk with Nick Smith, Danny Edwards Jr., and Dean Shiflett rounding out the top five.

The lineup of race two would be the finishing order of the first race placing Greg Edwards and C.E. Falk on the front row with Nick Smith and Danny Edwards Jr., flanking them in row two. During the opening circuits of the race, Falk mounted a strong challenge for Greg Edwards lead on the outside. But after five laps, Edwards gained the clear advantage with Falk ducking behind him looking to make another challenge on the inside.

But before Falk could make another challenge Nick Smith inserted himself into the situation giving Falk quite a bump in turn 3 getting him loose and making room for Smith to make the pass on the inside while also allowing Edwards to lengthen his lead by a few car lengths. The first caution of the night would appear on lap 19 as Casey Wyatt went for a spin off turn 2 bunching the field up for a double file restart.

On the restart, Smith used his position on the outside to make a challenge on the outside leading laps 19 and 20 before Edwards fought back to lead lap 21 with Smith rallying back again to lead lap 22 which proved important as a crash in turn 2 would bring the caution back out placing Smith as the leader with Edwards on the outside. But Smith's time up front would not last much longer as Smith would go for a spin on the exit of turn 4 bringing out the caution on lap 25 for the final caution of the race.

As the race got closer and closer to the end another Falk began to make moves as Wes Falk began to move into the top five and closer and closer to the front. On lap 43, as C.E. Falk began to show signs of a mechanical problem his brother Wes bypassed him to take over second with Mark Wertz following suit to take over third. Falk, who had suffered a broken spindle, would continue to fall before settling into the seventh position at the finish.

But at the front it continued to be the Greg Edwards show as he won his second race of the night by four seconds over Wes Falk with Mark Wertz, Terry Carroll and Danny Edwards Jr., rounding out the top five. With the wins Greg Edwards moved himself back into second in the points only 20 points behind leader C.E. Falk, with Woody Howard, Danny Edwards Jr., and Wes Falk rounding out the top five in points. The Langley Late Model Stock division will run another pair of 50 lappers this Saturday night.
