Rougemont, NC(October 11, 2009) -- With a dominating win Saturday night , David Triplett Jr. pulled into a dead even tie with Stacy Puryear at the top of the Orange County Speedway Late Model Stock Car point standings with just one race remaining for the late models on October 24.
Triplett easily led all 100 laps and led Terry Dease, Kenny Forbes, Puryear, and Rusty Skewes across the line. 11 of the 12 starters were running at the finish. The only serious incident took place on lap 40 when Tracy Chambers and Jay Crawford got together in turn four. Chambers car got briefly airborne after running across the hood of Crawford's machine. Chambers ran a few laps after the incident at reduced speed, but eventually retired her mount.
Limited points leader Michael McGuire had been scheduled to make his late model debut but his car was withdrawn after practice because of handling issues. Frank Deiny, Jr.'s FDJ Motorsports brought cars for Jeff Oleen and Rusty Skewes.
"This is just a practice session," Deiny laughed before the race. "We plan to really run strong when we come back on October 24th."
Skewes was very impressive with his top five run battling with Forbes and Puryear in the final 20 laps. Oleen finished seventh.
Joey Throckmorton won the 50 lap limited feature over Donald Brace and McGuire. He now trails McGuire by ten points with one race left in that division. Michael Hatley was a strong early contender before crashing into the turn four wall near the halfway point. Hatley's car was ablaze for several agonizing seconds before track personnel put the fire out. He escaped unhurt. Scott Hitchens destroyed the front of his car in a practice crash. A strong 15 cars were registered for the limited class, one of the best turnouts of the season.
Tommy Chandler won the Grand Stock 35-lapper and now leads those standings by 18 over James Myers. Eddie Capps finished second for his best result of the season.
