Rob's Ramblings for October 22, 2009
Commentary by: Rob Staley/Contributor to RACE22.com
Danville, VA(October 22, 2009) -- The best of 2009...
Best action track - Ace Speedway ... For sheer bump and bang action, there is none better in this area.
Best run track - Orange County Speedway ... The races get started on time and the entire show is usually over in around three hours.
Best track for competition - Motor Mile Speedway ... Hands down, the winner in this category. 30 plus cars and the region's best drivers are the norm.
Best rivalry - Rodney Cook vs Speedy Faucette at Ace ... Very entertaining and a big reason why Ace stayed on the LMSC radar this year.
So much for kudos ... We look forward to a very interesting weekend. Of
course the big story is the LMSC finale at Orange County where Stacy Puryear and David Triplett Jr. are tied for the points lead going in. We may well see the biggest field of cars this season with South Boston done for the year. Justin Johnson will bring his FDJ Motorsports machine to the fray after taking the SoBo season title. Deiny will also once again field cars for Rusty Skewes and Jeff Oleen.
Ace gets back on track with multiple divisions on Saturday afternoon. Strangely, separate races were to be run for the Bowman Gray type sportsman cars and the Ace sportsman division, but someone brought them to their senses and they made the change to combine the races.
Speaking of Ace, let's hope they come to their senses and cut out the RWYB(Run What You Brung) crap. One race a few weeks back had a couple of Ace mods, a Limited, a Flathead Ford, and an ex-ASA converted road course car. The road course machine, Dean Bumgardner's #74 Taurus (see photo in "Rob's Right/Wrong Turns" in the archives) featured working brake lights.
If you decide to stay home, a lot of area talent will be competing at Martinsville in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race(Saturday live on Speed). Corey Latham is planning to do a story on the adventures of Bowman Gray Stadium Modified drivers, Tim Brown and Burt Myers. Good luck to both drivers who will be competing in their first truck series race on the half-mile paper clip.
