LeFevers Wins His Second Race in a Row

Story by: John Bowen ~ johnbowen@RACE22.com

Hudson, NC(August 11, 2009) -- Jesse Lefevers continues his late summer hot streak taking home a victory at Tri-County Motor Speedway, his second of the season on the 4/10 mile track, second in six days after winning last Saturday at Hickory and fourth of the season overall.

Coming through the gate this week, I knew it was going to be a great night of racing at Tri-County and I was right for sure. With early season dominator Jesse Lefevers, UARA stand-out Chris Lawson, last weeks pole winner Brian Curry, Caraway points leader Travis Swaim mixed with the already stout late model stock field of Dexter Canipe Jr, David Wilson, and Ashley Huffman. This is setting up to be better then the past 4 races which have been edge of your seat action.

17-cars took qualifying times with Wilson taking his first pole of the season in his brand new Mercer Racing machine. Wilson would role a 5 on the dice putting Canipe on the pole, followed by Tyler Brown, Curry, Lefevers, and Wilson.

As the green flag drops the battle for the lead heats up with Canipe taking a early lead with Lefevers and Wilson giving chase. Curry would fall back to fourth and Swaim would settle into fifth. The first 25 laps go uneventful but the crowd had their eyes set on Lawson who had to start last after having bad tire in qualifying. By lap 25 Lawson has made his way from 16th to 5th and looked to be catching the lead pack.

As the leaders come down the back stretch and into turn 3 Lefevers and Wilson make contact sending Wilson around and sliding up the racetrack. Curry would have no where to go as he slid into the rear corner panel causing slight damage, They thought!! 10-seconds later Swaim slides into Curry making heavy contact and then it all turns bad for

Swaim and Curry as RA Brown never checks up and pile drives Swaim under Curry nearly tipping the 14 machine over. Wilson would continue but the other three had seen better nights as they loaded their battered race cars up and headed for the house.

The top five at this point with just 25 laps to go was Canipe, Lefevers, Lawson, Monty Cox and Megan Reitenour. The first double file restart of the night would add some excitement as Lawson takes it three wide going into turn one and allows Lefevers to get a great run off of turn 2 and take the lead from Canipe. As the three get settled in with Lefevers leading Canipe and Lawson. Wilson is now working has way back through the field but not until he comes to Matt Leicht, as the two battled Leicht plain as day to everyone in sight drives into one jacks up Wilson and turns him around causing cars to scatter in every direction.

Canipe had worked his way back around Lefevers and wasn't looking forward to this last double file restart with just a handful of laps left because in order to beat Lefevers he was going to have to beat him into turn one and take the high side. As the green waves the two come across the line door to door with Lawson and Leicht in tow. Lawson again dives to the bottom under the leaders and is making it stick coming out of two. They are three wide down the back stretch for the lead with Leicht trying to push Lefevers by the two. Lawson backs out going down into turn three with Lefevers and Leicht powering past Canipe Jr and its all history now. Lefevers takes the victory followed by Leicht, Canipe, Lawson and Trista Stevenson who was making her first start of the season at Tri-County in the Richard Childress Racing #2 that Ty Dillon normally pilots.

I've left Tri-County the past several weeks shaking my head in amazement of how great the action has been the past couple months and with only 2 more races left this season there is going to be some major excitement in store I'm sure!
