Falk Doubles Up for Twin Wins at Langley Speedway
Story by: Mason Dunn ~ mason@RACE22.com
Hampton, VA(September 2, 2009) -- Points leader CE Falk came into Langley Speedway with a chip on his shoulder and unfinished business on the race track after a hole in an oil line took him out of the track's last Late Model event while leading with seven laps to go and with 23 cars making the trip out to Hampton, it couldn't be a better time for twin 75 lap races.
After qualifying wrapped up the fields for both races were set with CE Falk winning the pole for race number one with last week's winner Woody Howard to his outside on row one while Paul DeBolt placed his Ford on the pole for race number two with Falk to his outside.
Race number one would see Falk take full advantage of his pole starting position to jump to the early lead while Howard would get a quick challenge to his inside from DeBolt. The battle for second would end on lap 9 as the caution was displayed for the stacked cars of John Staton and Wes Falk after contact from Dean Shiflett sent Staton sliding right in front of Wes Falk as he was accelerating off the corner. Both cars would continue but with a great deal of damage.
While things remained unchanged on the top two spots on the leader board there was a good bit of passing on back through the field as the race stayed green until lap 43 when Greg Burgess Jr. experienced mechanical issues and became stranded on the high side of the track. The race would go green for another 29 laps before Matt Midgett would loop his machine in turn 3 on lap 72 to bring out the third and final caution.

CE Falk and crew celebrate their tenth win of 2009 after the second of two wins at Langley Speedway in Hampton, VA. Falk continues to dominate over the flat track as he dipped into the double digits with wins.
The other Falk, Wes Falk(41), CE's brother ended up on top of John Staton(17) in a crash in the first of the two twin races at Langley Speedway. The young driver recovered to finish 8th in the second race.
between CE Falk and his closest competitor Howard. Falk was quick on the throttle for the restart and jumped to a sizeable advantage quick and was able to cruise to a 1.7 second victory over Howard. Mark Wertz, Danny Edwards, and Greg Edwards completed the top five.
After a lengthy break between races, the late models returned to the track just after the stroke of midnight for the second 75 lap feature of the night ready to be lead to the green by DeBolt and race one winner CE Falk. DeBolt would jump to the early lead as Falk would stayed ahead of Howard due to the early appearance of the yellow flag for debris off the Kyle Waltz machine.
As the field went back to green DeBolt and Falk looked to make tracks from the rest of the field as Mark Wertz was making gains from his seventh place starting spot to challenge Danny Edwards for fourth before taking the spot on lap 5. But Falk would not stay content to ride around in second making the move on DeBolt for the lead between turns 3 and 4 on lap 7 and never looking back.
The second caution, and fifth of the night for those keeping track at home, appeared on lap 35 followed quickly by another on lap 41. The night's complexion changed on lap 45 as contact sent Danny Edwards for a spin and he and DeBolt were relegated to the rear of the field for the following restart.
The race would go green the rest of the distance which was no problem for CE Falk who had opened up a five car length lead by lap 50 and it only continued to grow from there. The main action on the track towards the end of the race was for third as Wertz was receiving a huge challenge from Greg Edwards who he was able to hold off using the high lane until lap 68 when Edwards would prevail.
At the end of 75 laps, Falk would claim his second victory of the night and tenth of the 2009 season by a staggering 4 seconds over second place Woody Howard. Greg Edwards crossed the line third followed by Wertz and Dean Shiflett.
"We had two flawless races, the car was absolutely perfect. Our car was incredible on both the short and long runs," said an elated CE Falk glancing over at two trophies, "My team showed that they wouldn't let a bad week bring them down."
After losing 26 points to 2008 champion Danny Edwards last week, Falk was able to use his wins combined with some bad luck for Danny Edwards to reopen his points lead back to 22 points(652-630) with five races left on the Langley schedule. Meanwhile in NASCAR points, the night was worth 100 to CE Falk which improved his National total to 736 and his Virginia State total to 716. The boost in National points could potentially return Falk to the top five in the Nation alongside Phillip Morris, Keith Rocco, Bill Leighton Jr., and Ted Christopher.
Langley Speedway returns to action Saturday September 5th with another pair of twin 75 lap Late Model Stock Car races along with races from the Grand Stock, Super Truck, Modified and Wing Champ divisions.
