Concord, NC(August 12, 2009) -- Concord Speedway is set to host their biggest race of the season to date for the Pro Late Models as they go for 100-laps and $5,000.00 to WIN!
Mobil1 is partnering with Concord Speedway to present a very special event for the Pro Late Model Division on August 15th. The event is a $5,000 to win, 100 green-flag laps contest. Over twenty drivers are currently registered to race in the speedway's new for 2009 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Division 1 and while all of those drivers have actually competed in one or more series races this season, economic circumstances have held the fields to an average of just over six entries for the events run so far.
Pro Late Model Rookie point's leader Cooper Faassen of Monroe, N.C. was asked how he felt the special event would affect the evening.
"I believe it will bring out more racers! We'll race harder for the purse, but smarter as well, to be in the running at the finish. All green flag laps means we'll be able to pit and work on the car without losing laps under the caution if is a problem develops. That in it will keep more drivers in contention. I think it ads a lot of excitement."
Other than the all-green-flag laps regulation, all other Pro Late Model race procedures will be in place, including the always thrilling double-file restarts that have been part of the program since the inception of the Hutch/BSR division at the beginning of the season.
The Mobil1 special event is part of the Whelen Night at the Races for the Whelen All-American Series at Concord Speedway. The first 1,000 fans in attendance for this event will recieve a special gift from the folks at Mobil1, as they be giving away a free hat and t-shirt.
Last Saturday night, Bobby Measmer, Jr. claimed the Pro Late Model trophy for the sixty-lap race. Mark Brooks jumped out to an early lead but went hard into the wall in turn one on lap eleven of the race. Matt Brooks and Bobby Measmer, Jr. went nose to bumper for the lead. This was the third win of the season for Measmer in the series while Cooper Faassen finished second followed by Matt Brooks in third.
PASS South Series regular, Preston Peltier also comes in riding a five race win streak in the five races that he's competed in on the 1/2 mile this season. Peltier will no doubt be the favorite to win the $5,000.00 prize money, but their will be plenty of other top regional stars in attendance looking to end his win streak at five.
