PLACE YOUR Story by: Langley Austin ~ langley@RACE22.com Coeburn, VA(June 21, 2009) -- This season at Lonesome Pine Raceway it seems that every time an outside invader comes into to town, he takes home the hardware and that has certainly been the case for 14-year old, Dylan Presnell. Presnell has only been to the 3/8 mile track a few times this season, but after a dominating performance on Saturday night, he's won two of their coveted trophies. Presnell was making only his fourth start at the Coeburn, VA track, but the youngster from Sevierville, TN has made the most of his appearances as he's been a threat to win in all four starts. Presnell put his car on the pole for the 50-lap race on Saturday night, June 20th, but outside the front row was Jeff Woodward, who wasn't going to make it easy for Presnell. Woodward jumped out into the lead on the start and looked to have the race in control early, but Presnell remained behind him and desperately wanted to get back into the lead. Woodward would hold the lead for the first handful of laps before Presnell made the move under him and the two raced side by side for a couple of laps before Presnell took the lead away. Woodward, who has went winless so far in 2009 after making the move up from the Limited Late Model division at Motor Mile Speedway. On this night Woodward would get the feel of being out in front of the field, but Presnell had too good of a car to ride behind him. Woodward would remain in second before eventually relinquishing that position to Nate Monteith, who had started deep in the 12-car field at 7th. Monteith had a strong car and flexed his muscle to get up inside the top three and then into second before the end of the race, but he didn't have anything for Presnell. Once Presnell had taken the lead, he was never really seriously challenged even when racing among lapped traffic, the youngster simply drove a smooth race. Presnell is guided by his crew chief, Wade Day, who is a former NASCAR Whelen All-American Regional Champion and certainly Day's guidance has led Presnell in the right direction. Behind Presnell and Monteith there was a dog fight for the third position between Woodward and former track champion, Wayne Hale. Hale battled to the inside of Woodward and stayed there for many laps toward the end of the race, but Woodward used the high-line to his advantage and kept the spot to the finish of the race. Hale would place fourth with Brian Blevins, who is the only other multi-time winner this season completing the top five finishers in the 50-lap feature. However, the night belonged to Presnell, who took home his second win in only four starts and continued a recent streak of non-regulars at the track to have visited victory lane in the month of June. That streak started on June 6th when Kaleb Pressley took home the win in his only start at the track this season, Jake Crum backed that up a week ago with his first career victory at Lonesome Pine in his first start of the season and with Presnell winning his second race of the season even though he's running the UARA-STARS tour full time. Presnell is competing for the rookie of the year award in the UARA-STARS Series this season despite being forced to miss the first two races of the season due to his age. Presnell and his crew chief, Day have used Lonesome Pine Raceway, which is a non-NASCAR sanctioned track as a test facility to help gain the 14-year old driver more seat time and experience as he's only run eight races this season total between the UARA and Lonesome Pine. Presnell's four races of experience at Lonesome Pine should certainly give him a leg up on the other UARA-STARS Series drivers when the tour rolls into "The Pine" on Saturday, July 4th for a 150-lap race. Presnell has certainly been impressive in his eight starts this season picking up the two wins at Lonesome Pine and he could certainly be the first rookie to win this season when the tour hits his "home track" in two weeks. For the Lonesome Pine Raceway regulars the Late Model Stock Cars will be off for the next two weeks while touring series take center stage first with the Iscars Dash Series this Saturday, June 27th and then with the UARA-STARS Late Models on Saturday, July 4th. Some of the track regulars have intentions on running with the UARA-STARS as the track goes by the same rules as the series for the tracks Late Models, but for the rest of them, they'll be running again on Saturday, July 11th.
