Story by: John Bowen/RACE22.com Contributor

Welcome to the latest addition to RACE22.com "Bowen's Crystal Ball" ... and now that John Bowen has won the First Half of the RACE22.com Fantasy Racing League for 2009 he's confident he can accurately predict the races throughout the region and well we've decided to give him a shot.

Heck he's bound to be about as accurate as the weather men ....Right???

In this segment I'm going to cover my weekly predictions of many races going on around the Southeast along with some curve balls here and there. Let's dig in and see what kind of jewels I can come up with! ...

Ace Speedway - Speedy Faucette started off on a hot streak and after a few weeks of rocky road and run-ins with Jason York and Rodney Cook. I think he is on a mission and will return to victory lane this week in dominating fashion.

Tri-County - This week we will see twin 35's and my pick is going to come as a surprise but as with my Ace pick this driver started off very strong and has hit a rough patch. But, I'm putting all of my money on Jesse "James" LeFevers to check out into a different zip code during both races. While Dexter Canipe, Jr. and David Wilson have been strong as of late I think another front runner will be early season winner, Brennan Poole.

Caraway Speedway - I'm a big fan of under dogs and even bigger fan of the up and coming stars. This week is another installment of the 200-lap $5,000 to win Late Model Stocks and Ryan Wilson will be taking home the hardware and the cash after this is all said and done. And, No it wont be because someone gets disqualified which seems to be the trend there this season.

Hickory - This is the most predictable Late Model race around and I really don't see anything else in my Crystal Ball other then #10 going for win number 10. Andy Mercer will make it 10 straight with little to no competition despite the double file restarts.

Lonesome Pine - 7 races, 6 different winners makes this pick is one to think about. After the good sportsmanship showed by the Monteith Racing team last week with allowing Wayne Hale to borrow parts off of their backup car in order for Hale to compete in the nights feature, I'm a strong believer in what goes around comes around. Nate Monteith will pick up his 2nd win on the season but not without a tough challenge coming from 13-year old sensation, Michael McGuire, who is expected to make his first start of the season on the 3/8 mile track.

Langley Speedway - CE Falk showed his muscle at Motor Mile Speedway last weekend with a strong top 5 finish and he will carry that back to Langley with him and take home his 5th win of the season.

South Boston - With Motor Mile Speedway off this week I think Phillip Morris has some making up to do after last weeks mechanical issues and the crash he was in, in his last start at SoBo. Phillip Morris wins with Wayne Ramsey right on his tail!

Pass South - This race takes us to New Senoia Speedway in Georgia. Someone that has been very impressive this year, but hasn't notched his first win is Ryan Blaney. This week is his week ... it's a new track for the series and everyone will be on a level playing field. Ben Rowe will take the pole and lead the most laps but Blaney will steal the show when its said and done.

Hopefully my Crystal Ball doesn't let me down this week and of course I will be back every week to either crow about how great my picks were or to eat crow and hopefully deliver some interesting picks for each of the big races around the region.

Bowen's ... Snow Globe

In response to the newly named czar of Late-model racing, I have a few picks of my own to challenge the great John Bowen. He is gleaming with his new crown, but the second half of the season will be a different story, and picking the obvious every week will no longer be an option I believe. We are gunning for you Bowen......

I've got the real Crystal Ball ...

Ace Speedway: Speedy Faucette is a very good pick, he has dominated this year and his recent run-in's shouldn't slow him down. But the man that has been with him every race, has said he is "one adjustment" away from being in the winners circle, will be there once again this week. Robert Turner has given Speedy all he has wanted, and after picking up a win a few weeks ago, look for him to be in victory lane again.

Tri-County: This one is hard to call. Bowen is right, LeFevers looked to be unstoppable early on, but then got into a terrible slump. I look for him to break through also, but it won't be dominating and he won't take home both trophies. LeFevers in one twin, and Canipe Jr. in the other.

Caraway: I'm an underdog fan too, that's why Bowen had such a large lead in the fantasy picks, some of us took some chances, he wasn't one of them. Ryan Wilson is a force at the track no doubt, but with Motor mile not running this weekend, I look for an outsider to come in and take the trophy, one of the hottest drivers around, Tommy Lemons Jr. Lemons has dethroned Philip Morris at Motor Mile as of late, and will be riding a wave of momentum into Saturday night. Jason York has been in a funk as of late, but this will also be the week he breaks out. Hard to call between the two really, but I'll say Lemons followed by York.

Hickory: Andy Mercer, let's move on.

Lonesome Pine: The big story is definitely going to be Michael McGuire this weekend, after falling out early at Franklin county while leading two weeks ago, this will be his first real test in the Late-Model ranks. Lonesome Pine is a tough place to get around, and like Bowen I'm going to go with the experience of Nate Monteith. McGuire could have both of us eating our words though.

Langley: CE Falk has really but putting it on them at Langley, but I will go on a limb and say there will be a new winner this week. The Edwards brothers have been tough, and when Woody Howard gets his car dialed in he will be a force to be reckoned with, but look for the "other" Falk to pick up his first win this weekend. Wesley Falk is his brothers roommate in college, and when they aren't busy arguing (I know how brothers are), Wesley is soaking in what his brother is doing and saying. Wesley will "put it on" his brother this weekend, and a large fight will ensue in victory lane, and then they will go out to dinner with the family.

South Boston Speedway: Philip Morris is a great pick at Motor Mile or South Boston anytime, but recently he has fallen off his perch as the greatest thing in the history of Late-Models. If Wayne Ramsey is back this week, he'll be tough after scoring two wins last weekend, but Nick Smith will be the man to beat on this night. Smith has been the fastest thing around, but sometimes can't keep everything together resulting in a poor finish, usually while leading or running in the top 5. Deac McCaskill hasn't been running anything like he wants either, this could be the week for him to end his slump also, but he won't be able to pass Smith.

PASS South: Ben Rowe is an excellent pick for this weekend, but his primary focus this weekend is running the PASS North race at Unity Raceway in Maine on Sunday, but that doesn't mean he'll not be in Georgia Saturday night. Rumor has it that he'll be in a backup car for my race winner pick, Bubba Pollard. Bubba is the hottest driver in the Southeast, some would say the entire country, and has been racking up victories all over the place and in various series this year. New Senoia Raceway is Bubba's home track, and he looks to add a PASS series trophy to his collection. Ryan Blaney will be tough as usual, he has gotten better each week, but Jeff Fultz will be back and Blaney may have to deal with some possible sheet metal repair during the race.

John Bowen whipped us in the first half of the season, and he is prancing around like an 8 year-old with a $100 bill in Toys-R-Us right now, but the rest of us are coming for him. We're all just giving him a hard time, It's all fun and games........until we lose!

Editors Note .... I SMELL A RIVALRY BREWING!!!

Head2Head: Bowen VS Latham
