Around the Region ... Concord Motorsport Park - No Late Model Racing This Week. Franklin County Speedway - Rodney Cook and Jimmy Mullins split wins in twin races at Franklin County Speedway ... that sounds like a broken record, but it's the story again this week. This week Rodney Cook surged from his third starting position to take the win in race number one while Mullins benefited from the top four

In race one Cook was followed to the line by Rick Sigmon, Travis Hurt, Mullins and Martinsville Speedway President, Clay Campbell. In race number two Mullins kept the field at bay with Sigmon chasing him to a second place finish followed by Cook, Campbell and Tim Hogan. This weekend marked the first start of the season for Campbell and produced good results for the veteran driver.
photo by: Lori Hopper Greenville Pickens Speedway - Marty Ward drove to another win in the "Shrine Race" at Greenville Pickens Speedway and clinched his fifth track championship. Ward, who won his first championship in five years was chased to the finish line by John Lewis Hightower, who collected his best career finish. Coleman Pressley, Anthony Anders and Kenneth Headen completed the top five. Hickory Motor Speedway - No Late Model Racing This Week. Langley Speedway - Nick Smith doubled up on victories in big twin

While many of the rest of the Late Model Stock Car tracks were taking the night off due to the Bristol NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race, Langley Speedway was in full swing with 21 of the top regions Late Model Stock Car drivers including VA State NASCAR Points title hopeful, Philip Morris. Last year Morris headed after the Motor Mile Speedway season to Ace Speedway to gain points, unfortunately for him he wasn't able to adapt to the track quick enough
photo by: Joey Mills/Twice 3 Photography despite testing the day before the race and the day of the race and finished third or worse in both events .... much of the same for Morris at Langley Speedway during a trip he had hoped to gain some NASCAR points as the track staged twin 100-lap races. Morris finished ninth in the first race, one lap down and despite switching to a backup car that didn't have very many laps on the tires for race number two didn't make it to the finish parking after 16 laps. For Smith it was a big night, he collected his fourth and fifth victories of the season at Langley Speedway and incredibly passed tech again(note: he has had a little trouble passing tech so far this season). In race one Smith was chased to the finish by Danny Edwards, Greg Edwards, Mark Wertz and CE Falk. Race number two saw Paul DeBolt finish second to Smith followed by G. Edwards, Eddie Johnson and Falk. Lonesome Pine Raceway - No Racing this week. Racing Returns Next Saturday night. Motor Mile Speedway - No Late Model Racing This Week. Music City Motorplex - No Late Model Racing This Week. Myrtle Beach Speedway - No Late Model Racing This Week. Newport Speedway - No Late Model Racing This Week. Orange County Speedway - David Triplett, Jr. took another victory at Orange County Speedway in one of the biggest fields of the 2008 season, 12 cars strong. Ryan Gray, Stacy Puryear, Terry Dease and Mike Chambers rounded out the top five. Southern National Raceway Park - Deac McCaskill doubled up on victories at Southern National Raceway Park in a big off-night from racing at South Boston Speedway. In race number one Corey Strickland, Kyle Hall, Chris Hairfield and Joey Coulter completed the top five. In race number two McCaskill found Coulter on his bumper at the finish followed by Michael Rouse, Kyle Hall and Michael Hardin. South Boston Speedway - No Late Model Racing This Week.
