Bobby Griffin Doubles Up at Ace Speedway
Story by: Robert Staley rob@race22.com As former Late Model Stock Car shoe, Bobby Griffin ran his own Chevy Monte Carlo in the 25 lap Limited Sportsman affair, then returned later in the night to drive a Ford Fusion owned by Kailey Lynch of Rocky Mount, VA in the Late Model Stock Car 75-lap feature. With Griffin's experience at Ace, Friendship Motor Speedway(multi-time LMSC winner) and Martinsville Speedway(made the Bailey's 300) in Late Model Stock Cars he was up for the test on Friday night unfortunately for him his car never really was. He finished second in the wild sportsman clash that saw the top four cars involved in incidents in the final laps. Griffin then started 13th out of 15 cars in the late model race. "We practiced fifth fastest," said Griffin. "I don't know what went wrong in qualifying, but we just didn't qualify as good as we should and could have." In the race, Griffin passed a number of cars in a charge toward the front. Unfortunately mechanical problems slowed the car in the late stages and he finished down in the running order. The finish for Griffin wasn't indicative of the talent behind the wheel nor the caliber of equipment the Kailey Lynch ride provided. Griffin will likely spend the rest of the schedule at Ace Speedway doing double duty as he pilot his family owned Limited Sportsman in chase of the championship and tries to get things going for he and the Virginia based Late Model Stock Car team. The competition in the Limited Sportsman class should increase as Bowman Gray Stadium runs the last race of the year this weekend and many of the Sportsman division drivers currently competing at the Winston-Salem track are indicating a move to Ace following the Stadium finale. The car starved Ace Limited Sportsman division could become a real treat in the final weeks of the season. The car count in the late model class has progressively grown as the race weekends have gone by and no doubt the competition will stay rock solid as Griffin tries to get that Ford Fusion up front.
Ace Speedway race fans could well be in store for their best racing of 2008 and hopefully Griffin will have his fair share of excitement and keep the fans on the edge of their seats in the Limited and Late Model Stock Car races each week. |
