Weekly Tracks Power Rankings -- June 2010 -- Drivers 1 - 11
Ryan Wilson is easily having the season that he had anticipated ... no, it's not been full of victories like maybe he wanted, but he's run solid all season to date and with his continued performances and multiple top fives in the last month he cemented his spot inside the Top 11 of the June 2010 Weekly Tracks Power Rankings. Jason York isn't the dominator he once was, but he's shown this season that he has the potential to go right back to being that once dominant driver. With three wins already to date this season, the only thing standing in his way is the further dominance of three-time Caraway Speedway champion, Travis Swaim, who is on pace to become the champion once again. #9 -- Nate Monteith/Lonesome
Some people may think that just because there's a small number of cars competing at Lonesome Pine every week, that there isn't some top notch equipment, teams and drivers. But, when you really look at it the track has Nate Monteith, Caleb Holman(semi-regular) and Blake Jones(under direction of Wade Day). Monteith proved his place in this list by leading the most laps in the recent Old Dominion Shootout at Franklin County and is on pace to become the champion of Lonesome Pine once again. #8 -- Tommy Lemons/Motor Mile
Second, third, fourth, fifth ... those aren't the finishes you want to see as a top level Late Model Stock Car driver, but when you're racing at Motor Mile Speedway on a weekly basis, you better get used to finishing there. However despite not winning yet at Motor Mile this season Tommy Lemons has come close twice and is nipping on the heels of dominator, Philip Morris and has been his biggest competition of late. #7 -- Andy Mercer/Hickory
Andy Mercer isn't having that Cinderella season he had a year ago, to date he only has four wins compared to seven at this time last year, but the veteran competitor is having a good season. He's chasing down some guys who got the jump on him in points due to a slow start and is coming hard and with a handful of races left before the big Dwight Huffman Memorial race at Hickory, he could have a few more wins headed into the tracks marquee event. #6 -- Wayne Ramsey/Motor Mile
Wayne Ramsey got off to a fiery start at Motor Mile Speedway in his first season driving on the track full-time and his first stint with FDJ Motorsports. Most recently he was setback with the challenge of competing with a new car, fresh(I mean fresh) off the jig and still managed a sixth place finish. As the leader of what's been deemed "the Anti-Morris establishment", Ramsey wants to challenge Morris on a more regular basis. #5 -- Rodney Cook/Ace
You know you're good when the track that you race at on a weekly basis decides to put up a $500 bounty on you after you're fifth win of the season and fourth in a row in just six starts. Rodney Cook will feel that pressure this weekend and despite his dominance, Cook is often looked at as an underdog when he travels due to his teams shoe-string budget. Cook however is far from an underdog and anywhere he travels he could be the local hero's worst nightmare. #4 -- Travis Swaim/Caraway
A month ago, when the May 2010 Weekly Tracks Power Rankings were released, Swaim only had two wins to his credit, but in the most recent race on the 4/10 mile Caraway Speedway, he doubled up to go to four wins on the young season. Swaim is also chasing his second set of back to back titles at Caraway and looks to be the first repeat NASCAR North Carolina State Champion and he's well on his way to accomplishing both of those feats. #3 -- Philip Morris/Motor Mile
At Motor Mile Speedway, they can simply write the check to Philip Morris week in and week out ... well, ok ... except for when the "Philip Morris rule" is in place and he totes an extra 50 pounds for winning two races in a row. He's done that now twice already and heading again into twin races, looks to be the odd man out with the extra weight on his racer. Morris however is undoubtably the best at Motor Mile and the only reason he isn't ranked #1 right now is his inability to win outside his home track. #2 -- CE Falk/Langley
CE Falk got this season off to a really good start, opening with two near wins at South Boston, a couple of victories at Langley and his largest career win in the non-sanctioned, Denny Hamlin Showdown race. However in the weeks that followed the Showdown, Falk didn't live up to expectations ... that is until a pair of twin races at Langley, his home track where he doubled his win total in one night. Falk is still strong, but he's got to back out of the "home track" slump and take his show to more competitive tracks. #1 -- Justin Johnson/SoBo
Justin Johnson and CE Falk are bitter rivals and while last month Falk found himself on top in the Power Rankings, a little slip and his old pal, Johnson has taken the top spot away. Justin is having the season of his life picking up six wins to date at his home track of South Boston Speedway and a lone win at Motor Mile Speedway, against the toughest competition of all. Johnson willingness to travel on his weeks off and beating the best of the best at Motor Mile seats him above Falk .... atleast for the month of June! |
