Danville, VA(July 16, 2010) -- Two underdog track title contenders caught huge breaks last weekend in entirely different ways.

Bobby Griffin seemed destined to lose his second place point standing at Ace as he was absent during last Friday night's pre-race practice. "I had a shift change at work and I'm scheduled to work Friday nights for the next few weeks" he explained by phone from his home in Eden, NC a few days later. "I was able to use vacation days to get off for all the remaining races except one ".

Griffin chose to work last Friday. "We decided to miss the race last Friday because the weather has been so hot and all" he continued. Fortunately for Griffin, rain hit the track shortly after practice and the entire program was cancelled. "We caught a break," he admitted. "We'll be able to make the rest of them."

Griffin thus stayed second, 72 markers behind red hot Rodney Cook. Overtaking Cook will be a tall order , but with three double point 100-lappers as part of the remaining 2010 schedule, there is still a glimmer of hope for the 50 year old veteran.

Bowman Gray Stadium Sportsman driver Robbie Brewer caught his own break as the drivers drew for starting positions for last Saturday night's first of two 20-lap features. "I pulled out a pill with a star on it," he stated. "I didn't know what that meant and a few of the drivers laughed when I asked about it."

It was the first time the veteran driver had drawn the pole position at a stadium event and Brewer made the most of it, leading wire to wire for his first 2010 victory. With a sixth place finish in the second race, Brewer now trails points leader Kyle Edwards by 28 points. Eight time track champion Ronnie Clifton won the second race.
