Dillon, SC(April 12, 2010) -- Dillon Motor Speedway opened for business three weeks ago to begin the 2010 season. That was a PASS South race and we returned last week for a UARA-STARS series race and Saturday night we finally returned to kick off the 2010 local division season Saturday night.
The racing card for Saturday included Junior Bombers, Mini-Stocks, Street Stocks, Super Trucks and Late Model Stock Cars. Among the names in the pit area included, Hal Goodson, RA Brown, Wayne Locklair and Logan Bunning to name a few.
In qualifying for the LMSC's Doug Barefoot took the top spot with a time of 16.920 seconds. Hal Goodson was two tenths off with a 17.126 second lap and RA Brown third with a 17.136 second lap. In Super Truck qualifying, Goodson took the top spot with a 16.526 second lap time. Joe Heigl second with a 16.655 second lap and Jody Measamer third with a 16.705 second lap time.
Fifty laps would be the distance for both divisions and first up would be the Super Truck division. On the start, Goodson would beat Heigl down into turn one and off turn two to take the top spot. He would never look back. Kevin Parson, son of the late Benny Parson would struggle all night as he would pull down pit road early on.
The one and only caution on the night would be for Michael Brigman who was slow on the track. Archie Adams Jr. would have problems with a motor and pull down pit road. That would be the third motor problem for Adams Jr. as his LMSC would lose two in practice. Once again, Goodson would beat Heigl off turn 2 and never look back.
Jody Measamer and the young Garrett Tubbs would battle for the last fifteen laps. Both would be going after the fourth spot and would battle really hard. Tubbs got into Measamer but didn't turn him and both continued on. Tubbs never got around Measamer and had to settle for fifth. Goodson would cruise to his first victory of the night with Heigl second and Jimmy Herrington third.
In the LMSC feature, Doug Barefoot would lead the field to green but that would be it as Barefoot would pull down on pit road with a mechanical problem. This turned the lead over to Hal Goodson and RA Brown. Jason Clark who started sixth quickly started his march toward the top as he picked of third from Ben Stanton.
The Brown and Goodson battle was a hard one but a good one with both running each other hard while never making contact with the other. Goodson would make contact with the turn two wall but Brown was never able to complete the pass.
"It was good hard racing" said Brown after the race. "I can't wait to come back here and do it all again."
After starting 12th Wayne Locklair moved himself up to seventh before the checkered flag fell. After the race, Wayne said they didn't have the car dialed in like he would have liked, but he will get it dialed in to be up there battling with Brown and Godson. Hal Goodson would be your winner after the lengthy battle with RA Brown with Jason Clark crossed the finished line third, Jon Lane fourth and Logan Bunning fifth.
In the Mini Stock division, Emory Herring held off Mike Stafford for the win with Stafford second and Brian Owens finished 3rd. William Haniey dominated the Charger race leading all 30 laps with Marty Stewart was second and Chad Webster third.
Next week the Late Model Stock Cars will return with another 50 lap feature event while the trucks take the week off but return in two weeks time.
