Falk Doubles Up at Langley, After Run of Bad Luck

Story by: Mason Dunn ~ mason@RACE22.com

Hampton, VA(June 9, 2010) -- C.E. Falk went into the twin races this past Saturday night as the only repeat winner at Langley Speedway this season and kept that distinction alive by claiming wins in both of the 75 lap features for the NASCAR Late Model Stocks.

Last week's winner Greg Edwards claimed his second pole in a row following qualifying with a time of 15.932 seconds, the only lap in the 15 second range to be turned in qualifying. C.E. Falk, Danny Edwards, Wes Falk and Woody Howard would make up the rest of the top five after qualifying.

As race number one got underway it slowly began to appear as though Greg Edwards was en route to becoming the second repeat winner of the season one week after winning his first. Meanwhile the main battle on the track became the one for fifth between Mark Wertz and Wes Falk as the two stayed side-by-side for 25 laps and swapped positions a total of 10 times.

On lap 52 the very thing Edwards did not want to see happened as contact between the cars of Mark Wertz and Wes Falk resulted in Falk going for a spin to bring out the first and only caution of the race and effectively erasing Edwards' lead over second place C.E. Falk. Shortly after the restart, Falk made his way inside of Edwards and took over the lead on lap 54 and never looked back.

Falk was able to cruise through lap traffic and onto the victory by just over half a second over second place Greg Edwards. Danny Edwards, Woody Howard and Mark Wertz rounded out the top five in the night's first 75 lap feature. Officials had decided to forgo an invert and start the second race straight up as they finished the first one placing Falk on the pole and Greg Edwards on the outside, effectively swapping the front row from the start of race number one.

As race number two got under way Falk picked up right were he left off taking the clear lead off turn 2 and never looking back as he lead all 75 caution free laps to claim his fourth win of the season. The field stayed fairly single file for most of the event with the only car really on the move through the field being that of Casey Wyatt who improved on his 14th place finish in race number one to bring home a fifth place finish for his first top five of the season in race number two.

"The car drove really good. Thank God it did because I'm tired man," said Falk who decided to sit beside his car and rest in victory lane. "That was a long 75 laps, especially on those old tires, but the #40 Avalon Fishing Pier machine got it done tonight."

With the wins, Falk was able to move into second in points ahead of Danny Edwards. Greg Edwards continued his streak of top three finishes and continues to lead the points with 378, 10 ahead of Falk and 14 ahead of brother Danny. Woody Howard and Wes Falk round out the top five in points after eight races. The NASCAR Late Model Stocks are back in action at Langley Speedway this Saturday with a 100 lap feature race.
