Clark Wins a Wild One at Dillon Motor Speedway

Story by: Chris Owens ~ chris@RACE22.com

Dillon, SC (July 13, 2010) - Dillon Motor Speedway might be taking the name "Madhouse" from Bowman Gray Stadium soon. In the last month there have been three fights in the Charger division and last night everybody decided they were going to take each other out. Logan Bunning would claim the pole in qualifying after Wayne Locklair and Bunning were fastest in the only two practice session of the day.

To start off the day rain played havoc on the track. At times Ron Barfield was close to calling the night when rain came down around three o'clock. With cars still filling in, Barfield decided to go ahead with the race as scheduled.

Logan Bunning and Hal Goodson battled for the top spot at the start of the race for eight laps. Bunning was then able to clear Goodson who know had to deal with Jon Lane in third. Scott Wise would go around in turn four to bring out the first caution of the night. Also involved was Archie Adams Sr. who had damage to the nose of his car.

Goodson now had another shot to get around Bunning in the restart. After several more laps of side-by-side racing Bunning was able to clear Goodson and set sail on the field until, Wayne Locklair came to a stop in turn two. The field was now bunched back together.

Jon Lane now moved in to the second spot on the restart and looked to get by Bunning. Lane was unable to get by and now had to deal with Goodson who was coming hard on the outside. Lap twenty two saw Jon Lane stall on the backstretch. After coming into the pits and changing tires Lane came back out and drive up to leader Bunning. After brake checking Bunning down the backstretch Lane fell back to his spot in the back. Apparently Lane was upset over a move Bunning pulled on the restart where he went into the corner and bounced off Lane sending Lane up the track.

Things settled down from there until three laps to go. Hal Goodson and Logan Bunning get together exiting turn four. Under the caution Bunning attempted to take out Goodson but was unable to do so. On the restart Goodson and Archie Adams Jr. made contact in turn four sending Adams Jr. around. Goodson came down pit road where Adams Jr. crew let Goodson know how they felt. No punches were thrown and both crews went back to their respected pit area.

The leader was now Jason Clark with Wayne Locklair up to second. Locklair got the jump on the restart but Clark blocked in turn one and two. Locklair was upset with the move and showed it under the caution flag. Coming down the front stretch Locklair rammed the heck out of Clark and cut down his (Locklair) tire. After changing the tire and coming back out Locklair again showed his displeasure with Clark under the caution flag.

The caution was out for a huge mess in turn two that happened behind the leaders. Jon Lane, Archie Adams Jr., Ben Stanton and several more cars were involved in the accident. Everybody moved away from the accident and continued on with just two laps remaining. Clark got the jump on the restart and set sail as Ben Stanton was now up to second. Coming hard from the back of the pack was Locklair who was trying to get back to the front. Clark took the checkered flag but the action was not done there. Coming across the line fifth was Archie Adams Sr. who was now backwards crossing the line. Adams Sr. went around off the front
bumper of Wayne Locklair and slammed the inside wall on the front stretch. Adams Sr. was okay but the car was destroyed.

In victory lane was Jason Clark for his first victory of the year. Ben Stanton came home second with Archie Adams Jr. third, Joe Heigl fourth and Archie Adams Sr. fifth.

In the exciting Charger division, Kent Harper sat on the pole and led all thirty laps in route to another dominating victory. The only caution of the night was for Ricky Locklair who stalled his car on the backstretch. One of the best battles of the night was Bobby June and Mike Watts for the third positions. Both
have a history from last year but both ran each other clean and put on a show for the fans. Coming home second was Ernie Chappell who for the second week in a row finished second to Kent Harper.

Next week the Super Trucks return for fifty laps of racing along with the Charger division. The Late Models return July 24th for another fifty lap main event. Coming up on Labor Day, September 6th, the Late Model division will have a $2000 to win Scuff Tire race. From talking to Ron Barfield, track promoter, the race will be 100 laps with a chance of the purse getting bumped up to $3000 to win.
