Concord, NC ~ The entire Ross Furr Racing team made the trip from Concord, NC to Hickory, NC on January 12, 2008 to celebrate the 2007 UARA-STARS Series Late Model Stock Car championship at the Holiday Inn Select and raked in the money and prizes during the nights festivities. The night belonged to the 25 Team, with all the crew members along with their companions making the trip and dressing nicely for the formal banquet to celebrate a championship that was won on the final lap of the final race of the season at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, NC. Also everyone who attended the banquet got a first glimpse at Ross Furr's new 2008 Chevrolet Impala, Marlowe Racing Chassis, which was looking sharp with a new paint scheme designed by Motorsports Designs. The awards started to roll into the team as crew chief, Greg Peterson from Peterson Racing accepted the Mechanic of the Year award and a brand new welder from Miller Welding. Many awards would come driver, Ross Furr's way as the night got rolling with him picking up certificates and plaques from various companies such as ARP Bodies, who gave Ross' team the new body that was on the new car that was being dislayed as well as several hundred dollars worth of certificates from Circle Racing Wheels and FireAid 2000. Ross also collected the RACE22.com Most Popular Driver Award for the Series and he found out that he was officially selected as the "Driver of the Year" award for the "22" awards from RACE22.com. The Driver of the Year honor is one that Ross shares with top regional and national drivers who have won the award through the years such as NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, Denny Hamlin and USAR Hooters Pro-Cup Series driver, Frank Deiny, Jr an honor he's proud of. "I was excited when we received nearly 40,000 votes on RACE22(.com) and then to win the overall award voted on by the staff was a huge honor. I want to thank RACE22.com for all they do for Late Model racing and especially the UARA," said Ross. Team owner and Ross' dad, Tim Furr also collected the Owners points championship which awarded him with a very well designed trophy along with a die-cast replica of the car that Ross Furr Racing won the 2007 championship with designed by American Die-Cast Company(ADC). Tim also recieved a UARA-STARS Championship jacket supplied by Sunoco Fuels and Bearden Fuel-Oil Company and also received a wire welder from Miller Welders and he was very pleased with the banquet and the UARA-STARS Series staff. "I just hope everyone who wins a championship gets treated as well as we were, this banquet was the nicest one I've ever been to. Everything was really nice and it was a great night and I just want to thank Kerry & Wink(Bodenhamer), Harold and everyone else involved," said Furr. As the awards banquet rolled toward a close, Furr took center stage delivering a great speech recognizing his team members by name as well as thanking all of his sponsors as well as letting his family know how much this championship meant to the young driver, who turned 24 years old just three days before the banquet. Furr then received several championship jackets from some of the series contingency sponsors and was awarded a huge championship trophy. The trophy that is awarded to the champions of the UARA are made to look like the old NASCAR Winston Cup Series trophy, which is one of the nicest championship trophies in racing today. Ross was also really impressed with the banquet and praised the efforts of his team. "The banquet was really nice, the UARA did a great job and as much as I enjoyed the banquet the night was all about my team from Greg(Peterson) my crew chief to all my crew members. I didn't win this championship on my own and all those guys worked their butts off for this, this trophy belongs to them too," said Ross. Despite just being crowned the 2007 UARA-STARS championship, Furr and his team are still going full throttle, after working really hard to get the new car ready to be on display at the banquet they'll take it to Raleigh, NC this weekend to be on display during the Peidmont Racing Expo and Trade Show and then they'll hit the track in the next couple of weeks to test for the season opener at Concord Motorsport Park, which is just over two months away.
