Corey Latham

Here We go with another edition of "OFF the WALL" ... Let's Welcome Contributing Writer Corey Latham and Webmaster Langley Austin ... welcome guys!

Corey Latham: Howdy folks.

Langley Austin: What's Up! Alright lets get this thing started ... the first question I have Corey is .... Will you really go to all those races over the 4th holiday you told us about last time?

CL: Rusty Harpe Memorial at Carway Wednesday, South Boston 200 on Thursday, Whelen Modified Tour back at Caraway Friday, then up at Bristol Saturday night for the UARA race. If that ain't a race fan i don't know what is...........

LA: Wow ... gotta give it to you, but hey man I don't think my record will ever be topped ... in 2006 I went to eight races in seven days over the 4th week.

CL: You just always have to "one-up" everybody don't you? Where is your gang going this week?

LA: After knowing where all you are going I'm ashamed to say that me, Kim and Michelle(Kim's little sister) will only be going to Bristol Thursday for the UARA test and back to Bristol Saturday for the second and final visit of the season for the UARA. Going be big time up there in Bristol with over 40 entries already filed for the race.

CL: I see some new faces on the list for this one, and Kyle Grissom is coming back for his 3rd race in a row. Reckon he's wishing he would have ran the whole season now?

LA: They left the tour after a scoring miscue in 2006 and I'm glad to see them back, but I would say he's kinda glad he didn't run the whole tour it's too much hassle running for a championship.

CL: I'm still in awe of that great race we just had a Coastal Plains. Between Jake taking the win when the leaders wrecked, Darrell Wallace Jr., charging through the field and Jason York and Ross Furr playing "car-tag", I think Bristol will be a little "wilder" this second go-round.

LA: When have you seen a boring race in the UARA??? Well hold on the Bristol race earlier this year wasn't exactly a barn burner, but for the most part the UARA has some of the best racing in the world ... I tell you I would like to see a UARA, Camping World East double header .... anyways, I was impressed with old "Tiger" Wallace .... you know the Tiger Woods of Racing and the deal with Ross Furr and Jason York caught me off guard I didn't see anything prior to that, that led me to even think those two guys had an issue.

CL: They didn't have an issue until they hit each other. Going back to Bristol, I know MattD is coming back and will be tough, but i'm likin that Cliff Daniels kid, he had it going on at the end of the race in May. If Truex could qualify in the top ten he would be hard to hold also.

LA: Matt D. is the man right now, we've talked about it before him, Coleman Pressley and Jake Crum are at the top of their respective game's right now, but Cliff Daniels is the guy who I think has really missed out on a chance to be great this season ... Cliff has had two races this season that have been spectacular with 9th at Concord and 3rd at Bristol and he came off a season ending race at Southern National where he crashed the car the first week in qualifying, then when it rained out he showed up the next week with a completely rebuilt car thanks to Greg Marlowe and started at the back of the heat race and made it in the race and then came to front and finished third. He's on his game as well.

CL: B.J. Mackey could be coming in with some momentum also, he's entered in the Rusty Harpe race, those boys down in Asheboro had better watch out. The SOBO race should be good also, Philip Morris will be there, can anybody do anything with him? 6 in a row at Motor Mile? That's getting outta hand, need to put up a bounty now.

LA: Yeah we definitely need a bounty on Philip at Motor Mile .... he's been whippin' em down there ... BJ will be tough at Caraway he's really good there and he really wants to win the race honoring his friend. The South Boston July 3rd race is always good, I'm hoping we get some good coverage from these races on RACE22.com, can't let all the message boards out do us .... you taking your camera?

CL: I guess I will, being that our professional photographer won't be around....ummm..ummm. We'll have good coverage, the message boards are not competition, they are not even in the same category, they serve a different purpose. Well I guess we will have some pics of practice at Bristol on Thursday right?

LA: Probably not ... practice pics aren't very interesting .... I'd love to go to all the races that you are and I would go to South Boston if it wasn't for the Bristol test session ... that's the bread and butter around here or at least that's what pays the bills around this office(i.e. My Kitchen) and If I have a chance to get down to Tri-County Friday I may hit that race as well, but the UARA is where my focus is right now. LOL on the message boards and you are right, but it kills me to see one of our guys go to a race and not end up with the coverage we are all capable of ... we do it the best as long as we do it. Speaking of, that last article on the Coastal Plains race made me want to go and watch the video. Great job!

CL: Well thanks, I aim to please LOL. I can't wait for the UARA race in Bristol, I think I'll spend the night this time, I'm tired of missing all that "nightlife" I keep hearing about. You know what I'm talkin about, have you still got the burn marks in the van from the fireworks that were set off in it at Dillon compliments of our points leader? Speaking of Jake, will the rivalry between him and DiBenedetto be rekindled this weekend from Hickory? I don't personally think so but ya never know.

LA: LOL .... wow burn marks in the van, I owe Jake Crum one on that one ... The Crum, DiBenedetto deal is over, but expect Matt to drive Jake the way he drove him at Hickory ... Matt is a professional, but he doesn't forget the way you drive him or in this case block him. These two are going to easily be the top two contenders at Bristol now that Alex Yontz airplane shocks have been outlawed.

CL: I wouldn't be too sure yet, Caudill was able to hang with them the last time and nobody but him knows how hard he was pushing it. B.J. is another one, he had problems last time so we never really got to see what he had. Darrell Wallace Jr. could very well be celebrating his first UARA victory Saturday night, these things are really hard to call. That's evident by our Race22 fantasy point standings, well nobody has it figured out but Doc I guess, he's killing us.

LA: Yeah Doc is laying the wood to us, but he slipped a little at Coastal Plains, that 30th place finish by his rookie pick Kyle Moon killed him .... I wouldn't count anybody out including Alex Yontz, I really don't think those shocks had anything to do with how good he was and the bottom line is Matt D. only got around him because of his troubles on restarts and Yontz is back on his game after two really bad races at Dillon and Hickory. On Wallace, I have told several other people I have a funny feeling about him this weekend, I got a feeling that kid is going to one up Matt D. and become the first 14 year-old ever to win on the high banked half mile and he may even get a victory Friday evening when he is rumored to be going back to Lonesome Pine, he finished fourth this weekend, but he doesn't play second(I mean fourth) fiddle to anyone for long.

CL: I'm lookin for a little more "rubbin" this race compared to last but not any carnage. Don't need anybody to pull a Juan Montoya out there. That was awesome this weekend at New Hampshire, I bet Kyle Busch won't mess with him anymore. That race was actually watchable, but still doesn't compare to any of the UARA races I've seen this year. I just hope going to these other tracks this week for the big races won't be a let down, considering the action that I'm now used to.

LA: I'm sure you won't be disappointed ... hey what did you think of the Wednesday night edition of racing at Hickory Motor Speedway?

CL: Sherry Clifton does a great job down there and she makes some unusual moves, but gets the job done. The people who race there love her and she is a great promoter, one of the last good ones left.

LA: Yeah, I agree Sherry is one of kind and we love her for that, but as much as we love her, those racers do love her more. Ok, Corey lets wrap this up, last things last who's your picks for this July 4th's big races?
