Winston-Salem, NC(September 29, 2010) -- Youngster Dillon Bassett was able to pick up his first win of the year in Limited Late Model competition at the Ace Speedway in Altamahaw, North Carolina, besting track champion Boo Boo Dalton in the process.
Twin races were on the bill and after qualifying Bassett was lined up to start fifth in the first 20 lap feature of the evening running a good race but was only able to gain one position during the race earning a fourth place finish. The race winner drew a pill for inversion which came up five placing Bassett on the outside of the front row, outside of Boo-Boo Dalton for the start of the second 20 lap feature. With Bassett being 13 years old and Dalton 15, it was definitely a youth movement on the front row.
On the start Bassett was able to get the jump over Dalton to get the early lead, a lead which he would place a stranglehold on for the rest of the feature. The race would get slowed by five cautions including one with only five laps left in the race but each time Bassett was on point with his restarts and was able to put separation between himself and Dalton.
After crossing the line first Bassett made his excitement known to everyone in attendance and anyone within eyeshot of the race track as he nosed his car up against the outside wall and did a burnout that would make Cup drivers jealous and sent a huge cloud of tire smoke lingering through the air.
"It's great to finally get to pull this car into victory lane," said Bassett. "It's great not just for me but also for my family who has been supporting me with this whole deal, my Mom and Dad been paying all the bills on this deal and my brother Ronnie was spotting for me for the first time ever tonight so obviously we work together really well."
Now Bassett is looking ahead to his next race ready to join the stars of the newly formed Southeast Limited Late Model Tour as they travel to the famous Hickory Motor Speedway for a 100 lap competition on October 16th.
